I do check up on them, and I see a lot of bullying and cruelty over there. I don't know whether they would say those things if they weren't hidden behind a computer screen. That doesn't excuse it, though. Many people take their cruel comments seriously. I've argued with IT posters before, and they can be incredibly insulting and vitriolic. (It's funny because it's so hypocritical. They complain about how vicious incels are, and yet no incel has ever been even nearly as vicious toward me as IT posters have been.) You've also got to keep in mind that IT is a very biased sample. Only certain personality types get joy or satisfaction from mocking other people's pain and from actively refusing to try to empathize.

And of course not every man is like the male posters on IT, either. Most people don't encourage suicide or bullying.
