It pains me to imagine Jessica saying "eew!", her friends laughing from around the corner, mere moments after I said yes to her, as if my words were something dirty because of the way I looked.
In high school, I never externally showed the pain this caused me, but instead kept it pent up inside me. Personally I no longer go onto incel boards like this sub, wizchan, and such (they're toxic places, I came here through /r/islam), but at one point I did spend a lot of time at such places, and holy hell this post rings true as to my internal struggles. A lot of people see incels as evil and with twisted minds, but at the root they are simply dealing with a struggle in the wrong way, due to a multitude of potential reasons, including having that lack of wantedness being emphasised in their lives.
When I was in middle school, it was what you would expect of a building of people with raging hormones. I was that brown nerdy guy with glasses - wasn't part of the "cool" crowd. I didn't care much about that, but I somehow ended up being considered as "unwanted", not so much by the boys, but the girls. One day, I remember one of the "popular" girls asking me out on a date near the lockers in middle school. At the moment, she was a ray of sunlight to me, but the next moment it all went dark. It turned out she lost a bet and had to ask me out. It pains me to imagine Jessica saying "eew!", her friends laughing from around the corner, mere moments after I said yes to her, as if my words were something dirty because of the way I looked.
In high school, I never externally showed the pain this caused me, but instead kept it pent up inside me. I played out events in my mind of girls asking me out, and wondered to myself, how would I know if she is asking me out as a prank or not. I always felt like I was unwanted, and only date-able as a joke. I saw girls giving gifts to guys, willingly kissing and holding hands with their boyfriends, all while I was something for girls to just laugh at.
I'm in college now, and have banished incel forums from my life. Even the occassional lurk is only a quick look, because deep down I know I still agree with the posts and enjoy reading about "roasties riding the cock carousel", when in reality I should not. Its not as simple as that. Not hating women, being nice, being friendly is generally considered the default for someone in society, anyone less than that is disliked and anyone more than that is liked both to varying degrees. If that's all you're doing then you're at a neutral so why would an individual pick you out of a crowd. You need to do things to make you stand out as someone that someone would want.
