Because reddit has a post history and normes are looking to cultivate an image of themselves as empathetic and kind. When they go anonymous, like on photofeeler, they rate more accurately.
Guys are using a linear scale and gals are using a logarithmic one? I mean, the gal-made scale is NOT a bell-curve. You could just as easily argue that guys are just padding their ratings in the hopes it gives them a better shot at getting laid, while women are being honest.

All the ratings for each gender add up to 100%, the most common one which is 2.0 for males was about 14%
